I did not discover polymer clay until a few years ago. Claying began as a way to pass time while I recovered from a horseback riding accident. Now I find that my polymer clay ornaments are the perfect harmony of my love for horses with my desire to “create”. Working with the bright colors helps pass the dreary winter days as I wait for Spring to arrive and I can begin exploring the forest by horseback again. When Spring arrives, I get to plan for new color combinations and designs as I ride along on my Appaloosa. I believe I get to experience the best of both pursuits!

Some Fancy Feather - This ornament began with a cane inspired by Jean Sheppard’s tutuorial for the “old cane” Peacock feather technique as posted on Polymer Clay Central. This is one of my favorite ornaments to date, because I know that I’ll never be able to replicate the design since I used old canes to create the “feather” component.

Pretty Perfect - I was under the influence of a good dose of “spring fever” as I created this floral horse ornament. Despite the very basic component caning used in this designs, I believe the rich colors create an memorable impact.

Oceans Light - An adaption of mokume gane to the horse body. No distortion of the MG, just diagonal slice to mimic a zebra stripe effect for this ornmanent.

Pink War Pony - I love spotted horses and a real Appaloosa that often inspires my clay work. This ornament is one of my spotted creations, using a 3 color MG technique that requires a little bit of distortion for the final layer. I created a series of 4 different horses that I called War Ponies, using this technique. I’m still experimenting on my next color combination for this series.

“Pretty Perfect” is stunning. You’ve inspired me in many ways, as I see that you don’t use “real” colors, yet you produce beautiful art!
