Altered You!
by Karin Buckingham

This book is adorable! Instead of buying all new clothes, help your teen (and yourself) to learn the joy of self-expression that comes through altering! Many of the materials needed for these projects are already hanging in the closet or sitting on your craft shelf. Many more can be found at the thrift shop. But it doesn’t end with clothing…oh no, there are projects to alter your stuff and your space as well :-)

Bored with that book bag? Tired of that tee? Sick of that skirt? Alter them! This book shows tween and teen girls how to alter clothing, accessories, and room decorations to create great new looks with only the simplest sewing and crafting. Projects include converting jeans to capris, changing tanks to tees, making sweatshirts into shrugs—even turning jewelry into window art. Eighteen projects are shown before and after, with easy instructions and step-by-step photos. Basic sewing directions, supply lists, resources, and more make this the book that magically transforms dull old stuff into dazzling new stuff!

***Free Stuff Alert***Free Stuff Alert***Free Stuff Alert***

I’ve got three (yes, 3) copies of Altered You! to give away, just in time for the new school year! Just leave me a comment telling me why you or your teen would want a copy of this book, and next Monday I’ll have the random number generator pick three winners!! Altered You! is published by Kalmbach Publishing, the publishers of Bead & Button, BeadStyle, and Art Jewelry.

Hi! What a wonderful idea for a book. There are so many girls at the schools that either don’t want to or they can’t wear great-looking clothes. I would love to win this for my niece. She and her two brothers live with my in-laws. Long story! My mother-in-law sews and could use this to help out my niece. Please enter me in your drawing. Thanks, Cindi

I want to learn how to improve my sewing and find new ways of using clothes that no longer fit. I often go to donated clothing stores just to find interesting fabric. I would love inspiration on how to put what I have aquired to good use.

Please let me win! I am on a fixed income.

This looks like a great tool, I am doing some planning to teach an altered art class to teens who show an interest.. what would be better than showing them how to alter their own STUFF!

I haven’t been able to afford anything new for quite a while, but I have a fair amount of clothing that I don’t wear any more that I’m sure could be altered into something cool. A book like that might help me out a bit….

Thanks for the opportunity to win!

My 16 year old has this book on her wishlist! She gets bored of her clothes rather quickly, especially since we live in a small rural town, and most of the girls around her age have a lot of the same clothes from shopping at the same stores. This would really help spice up her closet!

Love reworking items into new things. Did you know you can turn a pair of jeans into a great halter top? Since my husband has retired shopping what it used to be. LOL Would love to get a copy of this book!!

I love the idea of recycling. I buy alot of used items, because it is cheaper, and every little bit helps the environment. I would love to have this book for more ideas.

Hi, I would love to win a copy of this book. I am always repurposing items from clothes to jewellery to almost anything I can get my hads on. The compliments that I treasure the most are when someone notices one of my repurposed things and compliments me. Wow that makes my day because then I knoe that they are truly unique.

Does one necessary need to have a teenager in their life to win one of these? I think I need to alter my own clothes (mom of a toddler who doesn’t shop a lot!)

Who *wouldn’t* want a copy of this book?! lol I would love to have a copy because my artistic preteen is driving me nuts, wanting to alter her “new” school clothes. Had I known that, I would have gone to a second hand store and gotten her clothes there! Besides, since I can’t get ETAL anymore, this would be a great source for other materials/ideas! hehe ;) I hope you enjoyed your vacation! :)

I keep losing my comments. :( Anyway, who *wouldn’t* want a copy of this book?! I have an artistic preteen who is dying to get creative with her clothes - but I keep putting her off since I’m not real sure what she’s old enough to handle. (I don’t want to finish the project(s) on my own. lol) What a cute book - thanks for sharing it! :) I hope you had a great vacation! :)

May I please have a chance to win one of these books? I am making jewelry now and want to run my own online site to earn my own money for field trips. I’m 13 and I have my mom’s permission to enter. You can check with her at lisa422 at gmail dot com

    Thank you for this opportunity.

I am always altering things that have become boring or may have a stain or a tear that can’t be repaired. It always is a pick-me-up for the item, and I feel like I have new clothes to wear! And kids today take brand new clothes and alter them right from the start, so they are way ahead of us to begin with.

I would love to donate this book to a secondhand clothing store which raises money for our school for the deaf.

What a win-win that would be. The poor people who buy clothes there could get ideas for updating (the sometimes) out-of-style clothing.
