I am SO sorry that I didn’t know about this contest earlier! There isn’t much time, but it’s for such a worthy cause. All proceeds from this fundraising event benefit the Breast Form Fund, a nonprofit organization that provides post-mastectomy prostheses and bras to uninsured and underinsured women in Massachusetts. I wonder if there are similar organizations in other states? Anyone know?

CALL TO “BRATISTES”

We are currently soliciting professional and non-professional artists to design and build innovative, non-functional variations of creatively named bras. This year’s contest will include bras created in two categories, human-size and miniature. Three judges will award 1st, 2nd and 3rd place cash prizes in each category. New to this year’s event, the People’s Choice Award will be given to creations selected by popular vote by auction and exhibition attendees. All award-winning bras, along with bra creations that are judged to have high merit, will be selected for the 2008 and 2009 Show Us Your BRA! Calendars. All genders and ages are welcome. All submitted creations will be auctioned at the Show Us Your BRA! Auction & Gala to take place October 13, 2007 at the Northampton Center for the Arts, Northampton, Massachusetts. All proceeds from auctioned bras benefit The Breast Form Fund, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that provides post-mastectomy prostheses and bras to uninsured and underinsured women in Massachusetts, helping breast cancer survivors look and feel beautiful.

HOW TO ENTER
Create a bra or embellish an existing bra. It does not have to be functional, but in order to be judged, it does have to be three-dimensional and made from nonperishable materials like cloth, paper, clay, plastic, metal, glass, stone, wax, plaster, purchased or found objects, unlikely materials, or just about anything with a long shelf-life. To help you construct your creation, a limited number of plastic upper torso forms are available for a $5.00 deposit from Gazebo (14 Center Street, Northampton, Massachusetts, 413-584-6673). There are two size categories:
a) Scale should be within human-size range
b) Scale to be miniature

Creatively title your creation but do not sign it until after the judging so that all contestants will be anonymous to the judges. “Bratistes” are invited to submit up to two bra creations but not more than two. There is a $10.00 entry fee for one entry and $5.00 for a second entry. Checks can be made out to The Breast Form Fund. Please keep in mind that you will be asked to help set a minimum bid price based on half of what you determine to be the full value of your creation, or we will assign a minimum bid price.

Please package all entries for safe transport. Entries may be dropped off at the Northampton Center for the Arts, 3rd floor, 17 New South Street, Northampton, MA on the following days and times:

Friday, September 21, 10am-2pm
Saturday, September 22, 10am-4pm
Sunday, September 23, 10am-2pm

Submissions may also be mailed to The Breast Form Fund, 14 Center Street, Northampton, MA 01060. Mailed submissions must arrive prior to September 21.

SUBMISSIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED FOR JUDGING AFTER SEPTEMBER 23, 2007 AT 2 PM.
