Ceiling rafter storage

Art Attack Thursday!
What a great DIY project! If you’ve got exposed beams in your house, how about putting the space to good use and building in some bookshelves? Thanks to Apartment Therapy (more specifically, thanks to Dad!) for coming up with and sharing this great idea. Apartment Therapy’s tagline is “Saving the world, one […]

How to make leather-look felt

Technique Tuesday!
You’re not going to believe how easy it is to do this surface treatment. I’ve asked people to try to figure out what the material is without letting them feel the backside of it, and they always guess leather! Like I said yesterday, it looks a lot more like leather in real life […]

Make your own photo journals

Check out this cute video tutorial! Judy teaches us how to make a very simple style of journal, using two 4×6 inch photos as the covers. I’m sure you could substitute other sizes of photos if you’d like. This is a real quick and easy gift idea, and also a great way to use some […]

Making an assemblage with resin wells

Technique Tuesday!
It took several days to make Now, Not Later. First, there were a couple of steps that needed time to dry overnight before moving on, and second, it just took me awhile to figure out what all I wanted to include in the assemblage. I tend to pull out all my possible materials that […]

Image transfer methods

We’ve gone over a LOT of different methods for doing image transfers here on Layers Upon Layers, and I thought it might be handy to compile a list all in one place!  You can always find an up-to-date list in the Pages section in the right-hand sidebar.
Polymer medium transfer film
Paper image transfers - plain and […]

Replace your straps

Isn’t this a great idea? Thanks to Lenore of Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories, we’ll all be out cutting the seatbelts out of unlocked cars. Just kidding! You can get them from junkyards legally…

Even better, Lenore shows us how to make the swap. Sweet!

Image transfers by contact printing

The fabulous blog, Craft Tutorials, has provided a step-by-step tutorial on making contact prints. As many different types of image transfers as we’ve discussed here, this is one that I missed! It’s simple, and just plain brilliant! Thanks Donna :-)
