Still Day 4: Friday, 01/05/07

Out to the house, finally! The kids are in the middle of game time, so we join in.

I did a little bit more work on the school books with help from Gladys, but supper still came way too soon. Tom and Noe hadn’t yet returned from a trip into Guatemala City. Mike, Dani, and I were still stuffed from the food-fest we had earlier. Micah and Hugo always seem to be starved, and they were more than ready for the spaghetti and leftovers. Susan had also made brownies with some of the chocolate chips that we brought down for them. Tom and Noe finally showed up towards the end of supper. They hadn’t been able to fly back from GC, but had had to drive instead, and Noe ended up very sick, necessitating a side trip to the same hospital up on the hill above our hotel that the earlier accident victims had been taken to. Susan told me that it is run by Doctors Without Borders, and is quite a fine facility.

Tom hurriedly gulped down some supper while Hugo led a time of singing on the guitar. The kids were glad that they didn’t have to miss their nightly installment of the story Tom was reading! As game time started, Gladys asked me to play dominos with her. It was a variation that I’ve never seen before, so we laughed a lot while she taught me to play it. I’m not too good at strategy games, and this one took some thought. She really wanted me to win at least one game, so she helped me until I did!

After bedtime for the kids, we retired once more to the family loft and Susan shared photo albums with me. What a wonderful family she and Tom have..eight kids from 33 to 19. And here they are starting all over again with Noe, Cecilia, and Victoria. Yelsie and Sabina will also be staying with them for awhile longer, but they aren’t able to be officially adopted. We were tired and content when Nate took us back to the hotel at 10:00.
