Mah Jong Bluebird

When this piece was almost finished, I turned up some mah jong tiles that I had found last year. After I decided to use one of the tiles, I looked up maj jong online to find out a little background. Surprise! “Mah jong” means “sparrow” or “hemp bird”, or some kind of small bird anyway. Serendipity.
The vintage greeting card reads,
“Greetings
May every day be like a blue bird to you,
Bringing you happiness and sunshine too.”
The background paper, that I’ll show you how to make next week on Technique Tuesday, is mounted on a piece of 1/2 inch wood, along with some buttons, the tile, and the vintage greeting card, which is nailed into place.
