Question of the month: What’s your favorite brand of pen?
Timaree, of Freebirdsings, asked this wonderful question, which I decided must become the next question of the month!
I am a collector and hoarder of black pens. I’ve got some colored ones too, but mostly it’s black black black and black. My personal favorites are those that can write on top of acrylics and gesso without getting clogged. I’m willing to name names. Are you?
Zig Millenium pens (bullet tip)
Faber-Castell Pitt pens (brush tip)
Gelly Roll pens
These are my top picks. Would you like to add to the list? You can either leave a comment below, or if you’d like to send me an image of a piece you made using your favorite pen, then email me at cyndi@b5media, and use the subject line “Favorite pens”. I can’t wait to see what everyone likes!

I LOVE the Zig but was completely PO’d that it broke after a very short time. As in days. Sorry if it can’t put up with a *little* abuse it won’t be a Fave for very long.
My current “Go to” pen is my .005 Pigma Micron. (all the cartoons from last week’s challenge were made with this pen)
It requires a bit of “handling” on mixed media, a trick I’ve found helps with pretty much any pen, holding it perpendicular to the substrate while using. Works everytime.
And I’ll always, ALWAYS, have a soft spot for Sharpies. Any thickness. Any colour. They make me happy.

I like sharpies too, but I can’t get them to write on gesso…no way no how LOL!! They clog up almost immediately. The Fabers really shine for that task.
