Susan Lenz’s Cyber Fyber project
You may remember that Susan wrote a terrific artist profile for us back in August. Well, I was just blown away by the scope and magnitude of her latest project! She sent me this information to share with you:
Tags: ATC, Collage, Cyber Fyber, fiber-art, Mixed MediaCYBER FYBER is an exhibition scheduled for Gallery 80808/Vista Studios, 808 Lady Street in downtown Columbia, South Carolina. It will have three major compotents: 1) traded fiber postcards; 2) traded fiber ATCs; and 3) invitation artwork…each artist has been carefully selected because the work represents some special reason to establish a supportive, global community of fiber artists through blogging.
Among the invited artists (those that have accepted the invitation) are Sharon B (Boggon), Jacqueline de Jong, Arlee Barr, Wanda Lenz, Doreen Gray, Jill Rumoshosky Werner (who just won the mid-career fellowship in the state of Kansas), Penny Sisto, Beate Knapp, Veleta Staffney of Sammy’s Stuff, Corinne Stubson, Dijanne Cevaal (international quilt artist, curator and author), Lynda Monk (Purple Misses), Nikki Wheeler, and Susan Sorrell.
I have created, photographed, and uploaded 163 fiber postcards and 130 ATCs for trade. All trades will be exhibited at CYBER FYBER. I have also contacted the local sewing center, Creative Sewing, as a partner in a “fiber day” for Saturday, January 10, 2009.
One of the best parts about this exhibition, however, is Saturday, January 17, 2009. It will be ATC trading day. Any artist, any media, any age…invited to trade ATCs at Gallery 80808. For those who can’t come (like the rest of the world), we are arranging an international random ATC trade. We are able to accept ATCs from the USA immediately and are working to establish a PayPal account (though we can already accept VISA/MC via a private email). Each artist can send up to three ATCs for this trade. For USA residents, just send an ATC with a self addressed, sufficiently stamped return envelope per ATC. We will conduct (and blog with video) the drawings…random trades…pull an ATC and stuff a SASE! For those outside the USA, the fee will be $5 for the first ATC and $2 each for the second and third. For this, we will generate the envelops, postage, and credit card fees.
Right now, the other artists with studio space at Gallery 80808/Vista Studio are making ATCs for the international trade. This is the link to the interconnected blogs: CYBER FYBER. Check it out. Spread the word. Trading on the fiber postcards and fiber ATCs is already underway.
